Week of Feb. 19, 2018

English

Gr.8 wrote their essays this week.  They will write their own Dystopian stories next week and these stories are due March 15/16.

Social Studies

Students finished watching the Ninoy video and Fakebook performance task was introduced which is due last class next week March 1/2. This is an example of a _FakeBook . There will be a quiz on the Marcos years and the map of Metro Manila on March 8/9. Here is a quizlet to review the Marcos years and a game to practice identifying the cities on the map. Next week, they will work on their Fakebook and play the CEFL.

Science

This week, students completed their summary flowchart/model of the origins of the earth and started work on the Group Video Project of a specific event in the Geologic time scale. The goal was to complete the research on their chosen topic and begin working on the script. Next week, they will work on their videos, which are on March 1/2.

Mathematics

This week, students learned more about Pythagorean Theorem, took the practice and unit test.  Next week, they will take the MAP test, discuss the test and write reflections, and functions will be introduced.

 

Week of Feb. 12, 2018

English

The Dystopian Expository Writing Assessment was discussed.  It is due on Thursday/Friday next week and it can only be done in class. The prompt is: Describe how the author of your dystopian book club novel uses dystopian characteristics to reveal a theme within the novel. Here is the scaffold again. Next week, they will work on their essays.

Social Studies

Students finished the Lakas Sambayanan videos, watched the Imelda and Ninoy videos, and updated their maps. there will be a test on the maps and this site is a good one for reviewing. Below is the rubric for the completed map:

Next week, the performance task called Fakebook will be introduced.

Science

Students wrote their observations of their E-column after being away for a week due to CWW. They then summarized the video on the history of the Earth.

Students brainstormed ideas for their group video project. Next week, they will work on their videos performance task in groups. Below is the rubric:

Mathematics

Pythagorean Theorem was the main topic this week and Similar Triangles was reviewed. Next week will be review and test on angles, triangles, and Pythagorean Theorem. Here’s another practice test from Ms. Deveza.

Week of Jan. 29, 2018

English

Students read Harrison Bergeron and have continued writing their practice essay. When they come back from CWW, they will discuss the paragraphs that they wrote about Harrison Bergeron and they will start writing their essay about their own book club book. It is important that they determine the topic, theme and the dystopian characteristics that the author used to reveal the theme. The essay is due on Feb 22/23.

Social Studies

Students continued watching the Lakas Sambayanan videos. When they come back from CWW, they will watch the Ninoy and Imelda videos.

Science

Students have continued with their e-column routine: observe, write in their journal, maintenance tasks, and add to their poster.  They have started making a poster, which will serve as their model to explain what is happening to their e-column. When they come back from CWW, they will start working on their performance task, in which they will create a two-minute group video project based on a 40-minute video about the Origin of Life, which is posted in the Week 4 slide in Google Classroom.

Mathematics

Gr. 8 learned about Angle Theories and Similar Triangles. When they come back from CWW, they will learn about Pythagorean theorem.  After that, they will take a practice test and will take the test the following week. Here is a practice test from Ms. Kath.
