Students continued working on their AFC: English on the letter, Social Studies on the research paper, and Science on the investigation, engineering, or model. Below is the checklist for Science and here is the rubric. The plan is due Day 1 beginning of class next week.
On Sunday, Social Studies research paper is due to Turnitin before 8 pm. Here is a sample paper.
- Word count between 600-1,200 (excluding Works Cited page)
- Minimum 5 paragraphs
- Include the word count at the end
- Submit completed text (NOT the template!) in a new document to turnitin.com.

Next week, English and Social Studies classes will be spent on preparing for AFC Day. Science will be on completing their model/investigation/engineering solutions.
Students worked on averages and scatter plot. There will no longer be a test on this. Time will be spent on AFC preparation.

Students continued working on their AFC research. English is focused on the letter; Social Studies is on the causes and tried solutions; while Science is on investigation, engineering, and model for their macro or micro solution. They have to choose the path on how they will show their solution. Their Inquiry Lab Design/Design Plan/Draft Model is due day 3 next week May 17/18.
Gr. 8 have to write a research paper on the causes and tried solution due to Turnitin by 8 pm on Friday, May 18 for their grade in Social Studies AFC.
Below are the presentation options on AFC Day, May 31. Wild Card has to be approved by their AFC mentor.
Students worked on their performance tasks. Next week will be about Data Analysis. There will be a test on this and then time will be spent on AFC.
English and Social Studies
Students continued their AFC research. In English, they have focused on writing their letters. In Social Studies, they worked on tried solutions and outcome. Note cards are due on May 11. Letters are due on May 10/11.
This week, students started the science component of AFC. In DAY 1, students designed a way to filter dirty water (from the previous activity) and completed their design plan. DAY 2 was about constructing and testing their filter.
Next week, they will design an experiment based on their own AFC research question.
Gr. 8 worked on their performance task. Next week will be about statistics and probability to help them with their AFC research.
