Week of Feb.18, 2019

English

Students continued to brainstorm ideas for their dystopian stories. They then finished their Socratic seminar. After the break, they will write their dystopian stories which will be due last week of March or first week of April.

Socratic Seminar

Social Studies

Gr. 8 read articles and watched videos on the Marcos presidency and People Power. After the break, they will have a 40-minute assessment: multiple choice and short essay format on Day 2.

Science

Students finished watching their videos and created their generalisations.

They also revisited their e-columns. After the break, they will look at the Earth as a system by modifying their e-columns and discussing open/closed system and biotic/abiotic components.

Mathematics

Mr. Cargile’s class worked on linear equations with fractions and decimals and after the break, they will start the unit on functions.

Ms. DeLuigi’s class worked on similar triangles and after the break, they will work on Pythagorean theorem and will have a test.

Week of Feb. 6, 2019

English

Students read news headlines to give them ideas for their dystopian stories. When they come back from CWW, they will read two new articles for the socratic seminar and will have the graded seminar on day 3. They will also continue to brainstorm for story ideas and will have mini lessons on plot development to help them with their own stories.

Social Studies

Grade 8 continued learning about the Filipino experience of people power. After CWW, they will review the past generalizations and will have an assessment regarding the concept of power and revolution after the holidays.

Science

Students finished their videos and watched all the other videos. After CWW, they will revisit their e-columns and talk about interdependence, e-column journal, and the design thinking process as they decide whether to rebuild or modify their e-columns.

Mathematics

Mr. Cargile’s class took the test on expressions and equations. After CWW, they will work on fractions and ratio and proportion before going into functions and equations. Ms. DeLuigi’s class worked on similar triangles and will go into similar figures and Pythagorean theorem after CWW.

Week of Jan. 28, 2019

English

Students read the two articles on dystopia and had a practice socratic seminar. Next week, they will read two new articles on dystopia for the graded socratic seminar which they will have after CWW.

Grade 8 continued to watch videos and discuss the issue of corruption. Next week will be about the Filipino experience of People Power and Martial Law.

Science

Students finished working on their videos. Next week will be a film fest where students can see everyone’s work and learn from it.

Mathematics

Mr. Cargile’s class took the test this week and next week will be about functions and equations. Ms. DeLuigi’s class worked on angle theory this week and will discuss similar triangles next week.
