Students continued their AFC research. Letter to a leader assessment is due on the first or second week of May depending on their block. Here is the rubric.

Students reviewed how to write letters in preparation for Writing to A Leader assessment for AFC. Next week, they have to determine the leader to whom they are writing the letter. The essential questions for this unit are:

Gr. 8 have started using the AFC note cards. They also had a lesson on paraphrasing and determining credible websites. Next week, they will continue their research.

Students took the assessment and discussed the concepts in Energy. Below is a video proving the Law of Conservation of Energy.

Next week, they will go into Matter. Assessment will on the week after the break.

Mathematics

Both classes are into Functions and Equations and will continue the lesson until next week. Assessment will be on the week after the break.

Students finished their dystopian stories and posters. Then they did a gallery walk to learn from each others’ work. After that, they looked at the library books for their AFC research. Next week, they will be introduced to “Letter to a Leader” AFC project and go into research using the AFC research template. Below are the important dates for English AFC:

Social Studies

Gr. 8 looked at the Sustainable Development Goals and found out that they are all connected. Then, they were guided on how to craft their research question. Next week, they will start researching the global overview of their topic. Here is the research template that they will use for AFC.

Science

Students finished their pendulum investigation and took their assessment on Energy. Next week, they will have an assessment on Matter.

Mathematics

Mr. Cargile’s class worked on Functions and will work on graphs and comparing linear functions next week . Ms. DeLuigi’s class worked on equations with variables on both sides. Next week, Ms. De Luigi’s class will take the equations quiz and will find the slope of a line.
